Job Description:

This position offers the incredibly rare opportunity of building a highly inclusive new sport from the ground up. With the support and endorsement of curling’s international governing body, floor curling is about to take the next step from recreational pastime to sanctioned sport. Impacting millions, you will be the one to steer the ship. 

The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all things related to the development of the sport of floor curling internationally. The position will work closely with their counterpart at the World Curling Federation (WCF), our joint venture partners. The WCF is the world governing body of the Olympic sport of curling and Paralympic sport of wheelchair curling. Being a relatively small team, this position requires a self-motivated, independent, and reliable candidate that is able to handle a wide variety of tasks. The position is home-based and preferably located in the GTA. Vehicle access is required for travel to events from time to time. National and international travel may also occur periodically. The position requires an outgoing and confident individual as client and public interaction feature heavily.

Responsibilities: 

• Development of the sport of floor curling internationally
• Creation and implementation of official rules and regulations
• Ongoing programming development and management
  • Including mixed ability, wheelchair, senior, youth, and more
• Oversee the creation and implementation of course and certification systems
  • Athlete, coach, and umpire pathways
  • Event management, and more
• International partnership development and relationship management
  • Corporate, granting, and other funding
  • National curling governing bodies/WCF member associations
• Development of official event structure
  • Focus on both social and high performance 
  • From regional to global participation
• Assist with development and execution of commercial strategy
• Ongoing product research and development

Skills/Qualifications Required:

• Proven success in effectively leading, managing and motivating staff, volunteers, partners and stakeholders
• Successful track record of leading groups, ideally with strong experience in the non-profit and/or amateur sport world
• Proactive self starter with the ability to work independently
• Strong interpersonal communication skills with the ability to establish and maintain relationships from grassroots to senior executive level
• Candidates must be willing to travel, work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required
• Passion for the sport of curling is an asset, but not a requirement
• 7 – 10+ years experience in a similar sport development role(s)
